Set in the 12 th Century BCE, the story is written through the perspective of Patroclus, a prince born in Opus, the story starts when he is banished to Phthia and meets Achilles, saviour of Greeks. The Trojan War was a pinnacle point in Greek mythological history and Madeline Miller managed to capture the emotional essence of this time and create characters with a modern flare as well as portray the struggles of growing up and navigating life through war and grief. ![]() Having now read it, I completely agree with her. During the day that it took me to read, I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster, I cried, laughed, sat in shock and fell in love with the author’s writing style and Greek mythology. ![]() This book was recommended to me by a friend, who said it was one of the best books she had ever read and could not put it down. ![]() The Song of Achilles, a poetically written, heart aching, and memorable story written by Madeline Miller, takes a unique perspective on the ancient Greek Trojan War, and navigates the shift from platonic to romantic relationship between Achilles and Patroclus.
